De verdediger speelde tussen 1974 en 1982 ruim 240 duels voor AZ&#8217;67 (voorloper AZ Alkmaar). Met AZ&#8217;67 won Spelbos in 1981 zowel de landstitel als de beker (foto Nationaal Archief: Spelbos in duel met Wim Kieft tijdens Ajax &#8211; AZ&#8217;67 op 15-5-1982).
